I've just ordered a set of 20" alloys, valves, and centre caps from my dealer. BMW don't sell this style as a complete wheel/tyre package, so I ordered some star rated tyres from Black Circles. When trying to book a slot with the dealer to get the tyres fitted to the wheels and then the car they've stated they can't fit tyres bought elsewhere due to 'insurance requirements'.
Has anyone else experienced this at their dealer, or is mine just trying it on? I've never heard such BS in my life! It was my wife who tried to sort it out, so I'm going to see the sales manager tomorrow and let him know what I think. They won't get the business, even if he backs down. I'm even tempted to tell them to stick the alloys where the sun don't shine and order them from elsewhere!

Is My Dealer Being a Dick?
Re: Is My Dealer Being a Dick?
Yes. My Dealer won't do it either, and for the same reasons. They told me it was to do with their public liability cover. What they would allow was if my tyre supplier delivered them to them. Something to do with a supply chain audit trail - though I'm not sure I understood that bit.

Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.

Hi
It is probably because they can't guarantee the wheel and tyre set up or quality of the tyre after you have driven out of their workshop should their be a problem with the wheel or tyre later as you supplied the tyre they may say it's your tyre at fault not their wheels etc etc and this feeds in to the world of litigation especially as there are fakes about, just see our website.
Having a look on the BMW website they do supply some sets with tyres, but the sets are not cheap and probably the tyres are not as cheap as black circles that's the price you pay for a BMW and they will more likely than not be run flats, or they may not supply the make of tyre you want.
In which case, I would just take the newly purchase wheels from BMW to my local tyre specialist and get them to fit them, or iirc I think Black Circles actually offer to fit tyres to your wheels at you address if want although you may have to pay a little extra, but that is the price convenience in having that service, but as a result you will have little come back on BMW.
