Coding a battery to X5 E53 ???

Post by kanewesley » Tue May 17, 2016 11:51 pm

I have just replaced my battery on 2006 facelift 3.0d sport.

Whats all this about coding the battery to the car ????

I took a 90A 820 CCA battery off
I fit a 90A  900 CCA battery in it's place.

Does this need to be recoded ....and how????

I have INPA / EDIABAS software.

I have replaced batteries on both our E53s without coding. They are MY 2001 and 2004. Yours may need coding as it's a bit newer. The reason for it is so the alternator doesn't under or over charge the battery I think.

in general battery's only need coding if the vehicle has stop start if you p/m me your reg i can check and see if yours needs to be coded

reason for the coding is to tell the cars ecu that it has a new battery and reset the stop start counter (the ecu will only do so many before it starts telling you that the battery needs replacing)

I have a Dec 2005 "55" plate E53.  No coding required when changing a battery - I have done this twice during the life of the vehicle with no issues.

As above, this is not required on any E53.  Only came in with the E70 and newer as they have 'intelligent' charging systems fitted as part of the economy systems (economy in the loosest sense if the word of course).
