run flat and non runflat on same axle

hi all, i just wanted some opinions on mixing a run flat tyre with a non run flat on the rear. ive had a non repairable puncture so need a temporary part worn tyre as i want to replace them all eventually at the same time.  and have been offered a cheap runflat, which would tide me over as it has the same tread depth as rest of the car.

Don't do it , you should never mix them as the run flat tyre has a thicker rim so won't move as much under load I e in a corner , so the handling will be dangerous ! Best changing an axle at the time . Other thing to note is the tyre sizes mainly need to be within 1-2 MM of each other so don't stick a new 8 MM on with a 3 MM one as on the X3 the transmission can fail leaving you with a 4K bill .

Beginning to look like the run flat is a bad idea!! I need one 285/45/19 with 4mm tread to match the rest. Cheers

I would ring around a few part worn tyre places if I was you.
I'm sure some may say. " you don't know the history of part worn tyres " but we don't  know the history of all 4 tyres we get on our used cars that we buy either.

I'll have a look in the garage tomorrow. There is a set of 19" wheels in there but I'm unsure of the brand and tread.

Why not stump up for two new tyres and keep the good one for when (not if)  you get another non repairable puncture in the future?
I undestand the increased cost,  but it means you only need to buy 2 more for the other axle in a months time (spreading the cost effectively)
