Dynavin opinions please esp. if you've got / had one

Post by Nick73 » Sat Apr 16, 2016 6:44 pm

Hi all , I knew it would happen eventually, but my factory nav is loosing pixels (a lot, looks like someone has scrapped a line off the screen).  I could live with that, but the BM54 is now also on its way out as theres constant interference and I've lost the drivers side speakers.

So replacing both isn't too far from the cost of a Dynavin and theres no guarantee the screen on the replacement will last.  The N6 looks good, so if anyones lived with it for a couple of months, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Also, am I right in thinking the N6 would replace both the head unit and the BM54 unit?

Search in the forum for 'Baris' as he can fix and upgrade the BM54.  A few in here have gone to him.

If you can cope with delicate electronics you could replace the screen itself.  Again a couple of folks on here should be able to point you in the right direction, one screen change was done not many weeks back if I remember correctly.

I had this Dynavin in my previous X3 E83:

I thought it was brilliant. I had bluetooth, satnav, video inputs, could play movies and mp3's from a USB flash drive.

The E83 still uses the original headunit though so not sure with the X5.

A friend has just got a Dynavin for his 2007 325i Coupe but has not fitted it yet.

Thanks both, I've seen Baris' website already, but the cost of the bm54 repair (£150) plus the cost of a replacement screen / unit will bring me (~£100-150)  So either way best part of £300 for a unit that will stream music, and has a 10 year old screen versus the Dynavin...

I've seen the threads for replacing the screen, but not sure my cack handed fingers are build for tiny electronics....

Ok, seems I mis understood how the system works, and whatever I choose, I'll have to get the bm54 fixed anyway (I thought that the replacement head units would take over the role of the bm54)

X5sport, apols,  I think thats what you were getting at, which I misunderstood.

cheers

I thought Baris could also upgrade the BM54 to add extra capability?  Might still not offer you what you would like though.

Nope.
It will replace the bm54, but you need a long cable as all the speaker connection etc will be in the boot!
If things were meant to be easy, then I will soon complicate them....

But then I could be talking bollox.. O:-)

Aha!, thanks for the update Steamy, seems like I was right in the first place!  Im watching Wurzels thread with interest... hoping he adds pics soon too!

On another note according to Baris' website can do a bunch of things to the bm54 (upgrade the output, add bluetooth streaming etc) and if the head screen wasn't on its way out I'd be considering that.

Like you I had screen pixel issues with my factory nav screen, weighed up the idea of replacing the screen and then within a few days my DVD drive packed up and the navigation stopped working.  Couple with the fact the Bluetooth was rubbish and the whole interface just feels very dated now I decided it was time to upgrade.

Read up a lot on the options and decided to go with the new Dynavin N6.  Installed it myself, very straightforward.

It looks like it belongs in the dashboard, has all the functions you expect in a modern unit and all work very well, including the Bluetooth hands free.  I'd recommend the Dynavin, repairing the screen on the factory unit is ok but it'll break again most likely in some other way!

Will be taking pictures at the weekend, after the exhaust is fitted  :)

For info the Pioneer Headunit I bought was the AVIC-F88DAB, comes with Sat-Nav built in, Android Auto (which gives you the option of plugging your phone in and using various Apps on the phone) and the Apple alternative. Has DVD/CD drive and a SD Card slot so you can put music and films on via that too.

Can confirm that you lose the ability to set/reset the time etc for the onboard computer, but I just leave it on the Range setting

thanks for the update guys.  Im still researching, I like the look of the dynavin unit, but I hadn't seen pioneer until I just googled it, again it looks good.

I take it they were both just plug in and go?  Ive heard that some of the eonon ones needed the dash modified somehow?

I paid a shop to do the work, they had a snag with a dodgy power supply but sorted in the end. New pics up in the gallery.

I guess you could do it yourself
