Finally found my LCI

Post by JF1980 » Tue Apr 19, 2016 7:11 pm

Looks like I have finally found my x40d - put down a reservation fee today and all being well should collect on Saturday.  Quite exciting after almost 3 months of seriously looking  :)

Any tips and tricks on using the pro nav / iDrive?  Other little things I might want to do or tweak once I get her?

For my E53 I have the cable for running diagnostics etc (using VMware on a laptop).  Which cables do I need to order to get myself geared up for diagnostics, coding and Nav updates on the E70?

Hi JF1980  ;)
remember to post pics up when you get your x40D.

[note to self, post pics up of my new x40D  >:D]

When I get my cable working and can update the nav maps I'll tweak a few things like boot close, mirror fold in and some light options. I'll report back when I've sussed it!

Sounds good - map updates and mirrors closing with remote lock are things I'm interested in doing.

Map updates need a licence key developed from your VIN foe each update set.  VERY expensive if sourced officially!  There are cheaper alternatives.  ;)

The maps are only £25 a set OEM, but the key was almost £200 last time I looked  >:(

Some coding also needs a licence key code in order to work, and there is a lot of info on bmwcoders on line.

Yep have researched it a bit.  Not sure how much we are allowed to discuss on here it seems to have become a bit conservative on that front..

Already have the map data files from *cough*  O:-)

Read about FSC codes and how to *cough* 'obtain' one.  Just about to order a diagnostics cable but want to get the right one - currently looking at this which I think will do everything I need: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-ISTA-UP-2 ... SwGOxXAlkk

You will probably need to get the latest data files to give you the car settings look ups.  They are huge - several GB.

Thanks, guess I should focus on getting the car first, then I can worry about tinkering..

Interesting, the cable I bought was OBD2 to USB - maybe that's why I can't get it working!  :P

Correct - based on some research I think you need a DCAN cable for the E70.  K-CAN works for older models like E53.  ODB2 will just allow reading of generic error codes.

Collected her today.  Sorry for the poor photo my wife took it while I was getting the paperwork sorted out.

Colour wasn't my first choice but it's quite nice - individual perl silver.  Black leather with silver trim inside.

Options:  20" 333, Heated comfort seats w/Lumbar, Rear heated seats, Comfort access, Soft Close, Powered boot, TopView and SideView, Adaptive Headlights, HUD, Sun Protection Glass, Advanced Loudspeaker, Pro Nav Media package.

Nice to drive - much smoother gearbox than the E53.  Don't like the driving position as much as the E53 but I'll get used to it.  Lots of grunt.  Happy  :)
