Hi,
The viscous fan has failed on my x5 in the locked up position which lead me to look at how it's all running on the cooling side. Now looking closely I've since found even with the fan locked up the 'normal' temperature range is at between 103-109 degrees according to the hidden computer display and confirmed with an IR thermometer. That at first sounded way too high but with a little trawling on the net looked like this could be normal?
This surprised me as I've modded my previous (diesel) 4x4's cooling systems to run comfortably at 90 degrees to avoid overheating issues.
Maybe this engine was designed to run in a high temperature range but from previous 4x4's I've been used to at nearing 115+ degrees it's getting ready to throw the coolent out the designed weakest point.
The aux. fan at the front has shown no interest in trying to kick in and help cooling regardless of air con demands either so suspect that shot too.
So, my question is whether 100+ degrees is considered normal in the working temperature range of this engine? Thanks.

V8 4.4 normal running temp range?
Re: V8 4.4 normal running temp range?
104 rings a bell with me. From memory I believe the 4.4 runs at that temp as normal.

Ok, thanks, so it seems like it's running at the temperature it should be then.
Maybe the aux fan is not misbehaving after all as the air con still runs ice cold at tick over even with engine over 110 degrees.
