ULF wiring vs TCU

Post by nujon » Fri Apr 01, 2016 9:58 pm

Blu-tooth installation conked years ago - just got around to having a look - fault seems to be no 'telephone on'  signal from the TCU to the BM54 so the BM54 does not enable the front speakers during a call - they can hear you, you can't hear them. Decided to get the phone working again and fit a ULF in place of the TCU in order to get VR. There are some differences in the pin-outs between the ULF and the TCU so for starters, can anyone confirm that the correct pin-outs for the ULF would be as follows:-

1 - Mic + ve
11  - eject box 'Cradle On' (i.e. mobile-specific - e.g. Nokia xxxx - cradle installed in eject box)
15  - i - Bus
17  - + 12v to eject box and ULF
19  - Mic - ve
21  - Mic shield
32  - 'Pairing' (from eject box)
33  - 'Telephone On' (to BM54)
35  - + 12v with ignition on
36  - 'Ground' to eject box and ULF
37  -  Front speaker (L/R)
38 -  Front speaker (L/R)
51 -  'Mute' (to BM54)

Thanks in anticipation :)

Does this help? Remember that VR is not built into the ULF you will I think need the VR box that will use the connector that has the blue SES jumper plug in it
4.6is X5 Estoril Blue (current)
4.4 X5 Sport Topaz Blue LPG (now gone squashed by a tree)
Subaru Outback 3.0 Rn Star Silver (current)
AMG 6.3 CLS Obsidian Black (sold)

No - VR is built in on the later ULFs- any ULF with "mit ses" on the label has VR capability - may not be factory-enabled but readily sorted via DIS or a Resler I/F. No jumper plugs on the facelift E53s BTW

Sorted after 4 years - a working bluetooth system again - and with VR - well happy! :)

I have a Gen1 ULF with VR!!!

Might need to see what happened there then!???!??!?
If things were meant to be easy, then I will soon complicate them....

But then I could be talking bollox.. O:-)

The factory fitted TCU had failed (the Motorola units like mine were notoriously unreliable btw) - so I fitted a Gen 13 ULF - all sweet now but not plug and play as you have to rewire the 54 pin plug
