Nappa Leather

Just wondering what people's experience is with Nappa leather vs Nevada leather.  My current E53 has Nevada leather and it has aged well with no scuffs or marks - just a tiny bit of wear on the drivers seat.

I'm looking for an E70LCI and so far have only seen one with Nappa leather.  It was in bad condition with lots of marks and scuffs.  I don't know whether it was just that particular car or generally Nappa ages and wears worse than Nevada?

I've seen plenty of cars with Nevada leather - some in good condition some not; but in general I haven't seen the same kind of marking/scuffing.

What is your experience?

Do you mean Dakota leather? E53 came with Dakota or more expensive Nappa.

Oh really?  I could have sworn it was Nevada - it looks/feels exactly the same as the Nevada leather in the E70s.  Def don't have Nappa in my E53.

Dakota has a slightly textured finish and Nappa is smooth.  I had it in my E53, and do have it in X6.  It is very soft - hence the premium paid to have it 

I would suspect the Dakota is harder wearing as it feels thicker.  The Nappa just wipes clean and I've not had any problems even with a 3-year old on board.

I had Nappa on my last E53.  It was a grey colour with a purplish hue to it that looked very nice. As I wear jeans 99% of the time the dye would show up easily on the light colour but wiped clean with a baby wipe.  I can't say how it would stand up over time as I only had that car for a year or so.

It does look more luxurious.  Just worried about it getting scratched/scuffed by keys, buttons, buckles that sort of thing.  Can also see from that photo that it was already stretching and creasing after only a year...

It's not 'tight' when supplied and the padding in the centre is softer too.

I have beige in mine and it just wipes clean.  No scuffs either, but I keep sharpies out of my pockets, and the buckles are on the front.  Our little one is in a rear facing child seat and even he hasn't managed to wreck anything (yet!).

That's reasonably reassuring to hear.  Think I'll go and have a look at the car I've seen over the weekend to check it out in person.

I guess it all comes down to how well the previous owner looked after the car (or didn't in some cases).

As Richard says, not over stretched as the pic was taken with in a few days of ownership.  I certainly wouldn't be put off if a car had Nappa unless it has obviously been abused.

Nappa leather is as good as you maintain it. Feels much nicer though.


Dakota is good as long as you don't take excessive liberties with it!
