Decided to upgrade from E53 to E70 X5

Post by graemeX5 » Sun Apr 03, 2016 2:44 pm

Hi all
I decided a while ago to simplify things as having 4 cars in the household and with 3 of them being mine, I thought I'd sell the 135i convertible and just have two the fiat and the X5.

I also thought about upgrading from my E53 to an E70. The E53 X5 was a 4.4i but with all the looks of the 4.8 plus a few extras fitted sliding boot floor, kenwood head unit, and AC Schnitzer 22s for a while and very said as had for 4 years and probably the best car I've owned ☹️

Then I also sold the 135i convertible a bit sad as had look for one for a year and thought it had sold in the October but then found it again in the February and so bought it as upgrade from a TT, but you can't have everything

Nice one buddy!

New car looks lovely - the old one (as you say) wasn't that bad either!

Able to bring it to the meet?

Hi Richard

on the E53 they did an option of a sliding boot floor which slid out to help loading. A lot of members are after them as when the go for an LPG system, because the floor is about 4-5cm higher it means they can get a larger tank in.

I wanted to ease loading and add to car features and so I found one second hand on line from mcfall salvage on eBay as they had a 4.6i in beige which matched my 4.4i car interior. The biggest prob was I bought the sliding floor and runners but not the carpet trims one each side and one by the rear seats which BMW dont appear to do any more. I managed to contact them and they sent them over for the cost of postage, I needed a few screws and the only tricky piece was the carpet trim by the rear seats but definitely a nice feature? Probably the best way to get one is to keep eye out on eBay as they are always breaking X5's

On realoem there is a pic whic shows and the links are below. The first link shows the extra carpet trim and you need that as without bits will fall down into the spare wheel well which is not good.

Hope that helps

That's convinced me to look deeper into doing it. Thank you.

I had the option on mine and it made loading/unloading a cinch.  It even has a support so you can lift it and hold it steady to be able to get to the battery/spare wheel.

It's basically a thick chipboard (or similar) plank, latching mechanism, two sets of wheels and two guide rails plus the support stay.  You take the existing boot floor out and replace it with a much thinner cover and this system sits on top.
:ant: Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.
