2005 E53 Abs wheel speed sensors issue!!
Good morning everyone! I've currently got a troublesome x5 with the standard trifecta lights on the dash. Ive read the car using inpa and the abs module (dsx8) is showing 5 faults- All 4 speed sensors edges absent and a generic wheel speed sensor max implrad exceeded. Codes will clear but then reappear on the cycle of the key. Ive swapped out the Abs module for another used but working unit, codes are still there. Ive checked all fuses etc and the connections at the module to make sure power is there and its showing 12v. It's recently had two new sensors on the rear right and front left. Inpa shows no speed pick up from any of the wheels but the speedo is still working? Has anyone had this sort of issue before? Could the sensors just be all faulty or is it a wiring /fuse/ relay issue? Thanks in advance for your help

To lose all four sounds like an electrical issue in the wiring or connector, especially as you have tried another module. The sensors should all arrive at a common point.
There is a copy of the E53 service manual on line which may help you out.

Hi there
Tha spedo is controlled by the n/s/r abs sensor.
Have you fitted genuine abs sensors? I've had issues with non genuine ones several times on Bmws (just a thought)
Can you get any live data out of inpa to see what is happening ?
Perhaps try a fault code read with another piece of equipment ( preferably BMW Dis or ista ) in case you have a spurious fault code via inpa
Good luck

Re: 2005 E53 Abs wheel speed sensors issue!!
Thanks for your input guys
, live data shows no pick up on any of sensors, all other aspects of the module are working correctly brake pressure etc are showing all good. I'm not sure about the abs sensors being oem as I bought the car with them just been fitted and the problem was still there. Would non oem sensors cause this much of a fault? Does the abs module detect an issue and cut power to the sensors by any chance? I've also read that this could be signs of a failing alternator? But I've just checked it with a multimeter and its throwing out over 14v at the alternator and at the charging points/battery. It does sound like a wiring fault somewhere unfortunately

Strange for wiring to affect that many sensors , however if it were me I would flow the loom from the module back into the wheel archa area and have a very good look for rub marks and water ingress .
