Buying a AUC X5 62 plate- need advice

Post by I_sohi » Mon Mar 14, 2016 8:39 pm

Hi,

I am buying a white X5 M 3.0d September 2012 with 22400 on clock from BMW AUC . I have put down deposit and waiting for private number plate to go on car to complete purchase

Please let me know what should I ask for before completing transaction such as map software update etc.
The tyres, brake pads discs etc are in good condition. They will touch up chips.

Anything else to look for?

push for 2 year auc warranty. I only got 1 year but after reading on here they will do 2 years with a push. Wheels, check for corrosion. Others along shortly, guess working out end of year profit  :))

I've never had the privelage of AUC from BMW as only bought private

I would assume all tyres will be in good condition and tread of good brands and at least match on each axle
Assume AUC will come with all sets of keys, service books

Anything cosmetic I guess will have to be picked up and negotiated yourself

Beauty of AUC is that you'll have warranty and come back, right so takes away less stress

Thanks all

They have done 2 new set of keys, check for errors and fixed £1080 worth of issues including new keys and service. The tyres are in good condition at least 7mm front and 8 mm back.

Will try for 2 year AUC warranty!

Found it very difficult to negotiate for anything after I'd put the deposit down on mine.  I suggested one of these little ride-ons to cheer up my 20 month old who would be coming to pick the car up with me but didn't even get that.  Stupidly assumed they'd clear the 2 big marks in the protection film on one of the rear arches but that wasn't done either.

Thankfully on the test drive the wife had asked if the car would come with latest maps so although it took a few requests post purchase I did manage to get them done last week.

Ask to see the completed BMW AUC checklist as proof that it has actually been done.

My last 2 cars have both been BMW AUC. You need to be firm with them before doing any negotiation what you want. Small cosmetic repairs you need to keep on at them for otherwise they just wont do it. When I bought my Z4 coupe, I went in the day it arrived at the dealership (it hadnt even been washed yet). They advised me it needed 2 new rear tyres, the glovebox was being replaced and had some nasty parking dings in the rear arch. Other than that I pointed out 15 stone chips to be removed, drivers seat leather tidied up, and said I'd have the car for £1500 off their listed price once I'd sold one of my two cars at the time. He smiled and let me go. 3 months later I picked the car up exactly as I said I wanted it for the price I wanted.

With the X4 a similar thing happened. I was looking to see the Z4 Coupe and a BMW buyer had offered me £10k for it. This was the only offer I'd received to date (advertised for 3 weeks on Ebay and the Z4 forum). So I said to him, if you can find me an X4 in my spec with a cost to change for £25k I will do a deal.

2 weeks later I saw an X4 listed on pistonheads with no pics but almost the exact spec I wanted for £37k. I rang the buyer and told him about it and he arranged for me to see the car, which had just been taken in as px and hadnt even been washed yet (see the similarity?). It was what I wanted minus the reversing camera which was going to cost £1250 to fit.

I managed to get £850 off the car & camera cost again before it was even advertised just because they managed to get it in and sold in the same month.

Deals like this can be done if you're prepared to
1) wait 3 months as I did in purchasing the Z4 Coupe (I saw it in Dec when nobody wants to buy fast RWD 2 seaters)
2) purchase and take delivery in the same month they get the car so they have a super fast turnaround, make a quick buck and have space to put some newer cars on the forecourt.

Sadly, they wont add it for free but i have agreed to pay £300 for 1 extra year AUC warranty. I have already negotiated a full tank of diseal, one year tax and £1000 off advertised price!

Sounds good overall, all things are relative with dealers as some have ridiculous prices from day one and others seems to almost under price theirs..
