I didn't do this, pewters has.

But yes, E70 cradle and file the edges where it will sit in the armrest to make them wider.

Searched for pewters and cradle couldn't find anything, he had a photo too, could have been posted on the old forum...

Hi,

I was looking into doing this for my i-phone 4, did the OP manage to get E70 cradle to fit & work ?
Someone on e-bay that was selling these & had the E53 listed as compatible but when I e-mailed to ask him to confirm, he admitted he didn't really know & advised I check with BMW !

For info, I spoke to our local Parts Team and asked what the story was with the iPhone4 cradles for BMWs. He didn't know, but he asked BMW GB and got a slightly less than helpful answer which was that BMW are awaiting sufficient stock from the manufacturer and will then test all three (yes there will be three different) versions to ensure that they are fully compatible with supported vehicles. Costs range from around £80 to about £130 - dependant upon version. I think one is basic bluetooth only, the next does music too and the third allows video media, but it wasn't clear how the bl;uetooth function was maintained for the second and third variant.

Now forgive me for thinking this, but when I was an injineer, we tested products before they went into production and then batch sampled as we went - say 1% - if the failure rate was low, more if there was an issue or a MOD carried out. Mission critical hardware was always 100% tested as it came off the line. We certainly didn't build 25,000 units and only then see if they worked as required!! This BMW answer did raise my eybrows somewhat and either meant the person at BMW GB was talking from the wrong orifice, or the Google translation hadn't worked. :? BMW Dealer Parts were puzzled too.

I asked a parts guy in Cotswold BMW.

He said that BMW sold both the Eject Box and Snap In Cradle for the iPhone 4 to fit the E53. You have to buy both, but the best part about it was that a couple of customers had tried them and they don't fit the iPhone 4. IIRC price was around £170, but I could be making that up.

By doing this the two advantages were charging the iPhone in the centre armrest and taking advantage of the vehicle's aerial for signal quality. There isn't an option to connect to the car's entertainment system.

But the iPhone 3 is very different from the 4 though.
