Hunting for a x5

Post by TheWelshPlumber » Sun Mar 13, 2016 10:59 pm

Just joined up,

Currently browsing for an x5, looking to replace mt current car with an x5 (E53),

Concerned about gearbox issues but I enjoy a mechanical challenge.

Looking for a early 2006 3.0d sport auto to keep under the old road tax cost

Once ive fully serviced I plan to have a remap sounds like Jason is the man in the know.

Good luck with the search, my advice would be to buy the best one you can find regardless of tax bracket, if you're that concerned about saving £200 per year in road tax you need to be aware of the potential repair costs of a 10 year old car with this much technology.

Don't let that put you off, if you get a good one you will have a beautifully equipped car that is a pleasure to drive.

Hi

The as the previous members said get the best you can, there are plenty out there and a ad once can cost you a lot to fix if you aren't handy with the spinners.

I would also advise you. To read the comprehensive E53 buyers guide. It helps decide which car your after and the spec.

Also when looking at these cars check all the electrics several times esp panoramic roof an give probs, windows, seats, heated seats also the head unit as well as the general bits on a car remeber rear footwell a can be wet a sign sometimes of blocked rain holes or plastic sheet inside the door panel is missing or torn.

Also check gearbox for any probs as some have what they call lurch on some cars p, I think it was the earlier 5 speed boxes but check guide, this just depend on how well the car has been looked after originally the gearbox is sealed for life but this is not necessarily the case now

Hope that helps
