New 2001 E53 owner

Post by Millssy » Thu Jan 21, 2016 12:39 pm

Hi guys,

Bought a 2001 X5 in december as i needed a bigger car for a job.

Plan was to sell it straight after but i loved driving it so much i have kept it!

Had my first hiccup with her today, needed the front pads done but i dont have time for the next few weeks to do them. Dropped her into the garage and theyve stung me for a new set of front calipers too  >:( apparetnly the others where seized.

Any way, ive bene enjoying reading all the posts and have already ordered some springs so the boot will open on its own  8)

welcome along, youll find this forum packed with knowledge and advice, as for those springs, from my exerience they are good to start with but soon start to eat into the plastic struts and also loose there "poing" after a while and only open the boot half way

Welcome along. Good to hear the original X still has the ability to change expectations.

New Calipers... OUCH...
i just changed the pistons in all 4 calipers... whole job for under £70...

Ask HERE on the X5 forum before you get your bank account emptied by a garage...

These vehicles may be complicated machines, but the advice here is learned the hard way, & these guys can save you a fortune...

Ive learned that the most complicated part of an X5 is the mystery that surrounds them... and actially, they are pretty simple to fix..
as you will find out.

All the systems on these machines are simply a collection of goodies robbed feom various marks of Landrover at some point, and it never ceases to amaze me at how cheaply I can maintain this huge machine.

Keep your eyes on the E53 column & you will learn loads.

Enjoy your new toy.
