Retrofit reverse camera on x5 F15

Post by dred5 » Mon Feb 15, 2016 9:17 pm

Hi all,

i was due to take delivery of a 11mth old x5 but the delivery has now been delayed. The stealer is fitting an OEM reverse camera and has now told me that after 3 attempts today they have been unable to get the camera coded!! WTF?!

They say they have submitted the issue to PUMA?? for resolution and are convinced that they'll get it sorted but not in time for me to collect the car tomorrow morning  >:( Needless to say, I'm not happy!! They reckon, that there's a possibility that the "fix" may be recoding that may take 7 or 8 hours from when they start. It doesn't sound right, not that I know how to code an iDrive but, that sounds very much like they really don't know what they are doing? Anyone else have any similar experiences or know any useful info about what the problem could be and how long it should take to resolve?

You know when you've been really looking forward to something and it doesn't happen?!
>:(

Welcome to the world of poorly qualified BMW 'technicians'.  It will probably be something really simple but completely beyond the limited capability of that individual.

After more than a decade of owning BMWs and dealing with bad technical abilities across the range, coupled with a frequent inability to use common sense or be able to work from 1st principles (something every proper engineer is taught from Day 1) I have little faith in any of them.

That being said, my current experiences with Skoda are no better!

It does take many hours to code the iDrive.  I had a 6 cd changer swapped out for an ipod connection done to my 2005 E60 530d and that required a software update. Took 2 attempts and 3 days!

Thank you all...I took the trouble the stealer was having as a sign and decided not to bother! i got my deposit back and found a newer car with less mileage and better spec for the same money AND it's closer to home!!

Picking it up tomorrow and cannot wait!!!  :P :)) ;)

I know this is an old topic but I have been searching for anybody who has retrofitted a camera without much luck.

I have found these guys:
http://www.carcommunications.co.uk/car- ... bt-systems

It looks to be exactly what I am looking for but a tad expensive...

I sent them a message and asked who my local installer was but they would not say. I told them that as it is obviously an expensive car, it would be good to see any reviews from the installer. They still said no...

If you have a read here https://www.bimmer-tech.net/bmw-rear-view-cameras/#forms
It gives you the procedure for installing an oem camera and coding. They reckon 60 mins max for coding.
