Parrot hands free install

Post by Grumpy2 » Thu Feb 11, 2016 11:18 pm

Hi new here but had BMWs for years.

Bought a 2007 x3 as a winter drive (also have a z4 and 5 series) This is our first Old bmw and it doesn't have fitted Bluetooth phone capability so I'm intending fitting a parrot 3100 systems that I've bought used and a dedicated adapter for the parrot and x3.

Before I rip everything apart I've been looking at the web for inspiration and have a few questions that you folk may be able to answer.

Where's best to source the permanant 12v from?  Cig lighter, glovebox light or fuse box?

What I'd the non loomed yellow wire for on the parrot?, muting? Where does it connect on the back of the profession a radio?

Are there any issues with the can bus and parrot?

Thanks in advance

You can buy an adapter lead on Ebay ( cheapest source ) that plugs into the back of the radio and connects to the original loom with the parrot leads coming off.

That way it's just plug and play.

I put my control box behind the glovebox. there are several areas to put it.

Yes thanks for the reply. I've got the adapter but it needs an ignition switched 12v to a red wire and the parrot unit has a yellow mute wire that I assume goes to the mute function on the radio.

So where is the mute and where can I pick up 12v ignition feed

This is the puppy

Cheers

Use a piggy back fuse from eBay straight into your fuse box.

I don't think you have the right lead, mine plugged into the back of the radio then into the main harness.

Then the parrot plugged into this, no need to mess around finding live feeds and mute connection, all done from the patch lead.

Looking at it, you should have gone for the fully populated version.

I have no idea where the mute wire would go.

the fully populated version only includes CD and steering wheel leads (these are easy to re-route so are not necessary)

the red wire still needs to be connected to 12V and the yellow mute comes directly off the parrot black box.

cheers
