Replacement door - paint/finish match

Post by CaseyJay » Fri Feb 12, 2016 9:54 am

Hi, I have some driver door damage courtesy a friend  :D

Before we put it through insurance, I'm wondering if just a replacement door will do the job.  If I find one in good condition, will the paint finish match nicely or does it vary according to age/wear/mileage on each vehicle?

Happy to do a friend a favour but also want my X5 looking as smart as it was...

you're saying a "friend" broke your favourite toy ????
You need better friends lol...
Hell hath no mercy ........ on people who damage your X5s  ......

I've bought wings & panels from scrapped vehicles, and found them to be undetectable in colour match.
A good wash & a thorough polish will usually solve any tiny miss-match anyway...

I have swapped a tailgate, passenger front wing & RHS rear door in Black metallic on my 2004 D-Sport with a perfect match in every case.

yes indeed, parked right outside their house, you'd think an X5 is big enough an object for them to avoid, still all it takes is a moment of unconscious thinking...

have heard that black is the easiest colour to match/less fade - mine is Titan Silver and according to some might need blending in; if any paintwork involved may as well get the insurance to manage for me...

I recon you would be dead unlucky if you didn't get a decent match..
