For my 3 penneth worth...
I fitted a matching set of REAR wheels all round... with 295 tyres... on standard 19" rims.
the road manners improved instantly & the front tyre outer edge scrub virtually ceased.
additiinally, I also fitted 35mm rear spacers & 15mm front spacers.
This brought the wheel track to identical measurements front & rear...
My X5 now drives like its on rails wet or dry, the cornering & straight line drive is now excellent... and feels VERY stable.
She has done over 155k miles & 25k with the spacers & mods... and the tyres are still 5mm tread after 25,000 miles on all 4 corners.
The tyres I have are Middle of the Range ROADSTONE's..... and drive beautifully & have great water dispersal too.

pic from the rear please..........must look awesome
thanks for the input

I was running Hankook Ventus all round. When they wore quickly due to wheel alignment issues, I fitted cheaper Nexxen Roadians all round until I was happy with the alignment and wear rate. The car feels perfectly ok and drives well on them. Haven't tried them on snow or ice but living in Cornwall, plenty of rain with no issues, including towing a 21 foot caravan, once on quite a wet field! Also rescued a small Peugeot stuck in a field this evening with no bother.

I'm running Toyo on mine all round. They are very good for the money and work well in most conditions.

which toyo are you using?

I looked at the Toyo choices as mine are due replacement shortly, the only ones i could find that came up in correct sizes were the Toyo T1's. After looking at the cost they worked out around £85 cheaper a set than the Michelin Diamaris so i will be going with the Michelins to keep the Star rating and not tempt fate!

Mine has mismatched budget tyres on it put on by the previous owner - I do such low mileage that I haven't replaced them yet but I plan to soon. Being a heavy car I tend not to drive it hard anyway..... but yeah budget tyres are pretty dire and it is quite easy to induce under steer in the wet and not very confidence inspiring.
I did some research a couple of months back and came to the conclusion that anything worth having was going to be at least £110 (front) and £140 (rear).......premium brands considerably more.
I refuse to spend £200 a corner on continental or bridgestone as I do low miles and drive like an old fart. I've seen reasonable feedback for Hankook Ventus ST RH06 and Nexen N'Fera RU1 but no personal experience yet.

As I said earlier, I've had those very Hankook's, was more than happy with them. Only replaced as they got worn due to alignment issues (and its an X5 after all). Would fit them again when I'm happy it's not going to eat another pair of rears lol.

What are they like for noise? Noisy tyres drive me nuts. The one advantage I've noticed with premium brands before is they do tend to be quieter than mid range or budgets.
