What does this warning light mean

What's the square warning symbol mean please , is it to do with the service lights.

Time based service.  Usually just brake fluid needs replacing.  It's on a 2-year cycle.  It won't be long before you need a main service too though.

I've changed fuel, air , cabin filter and crankcase breather as the bmw dealer seemed to miss all that out on the last service before I bought the car and the only thing they did change was the oil and filter .

In that case they should have reset the service lights too!  Each 'green' segment is approx 3,000 miles and I think the 'Amber' is 1,000 then it goes Red.

It depends on your driving style. I do predominantly motorway driving and get 5000 miles for each green light

Some service timers work on litres of fuel used, maybe the E53 one does too.
