No, you can get an SE SD.

Ignore what you have heard. Test drive both and see what suits you best.
On my old SE 2.0d it came with 17" which were very comfortable, I then put 18" Msport staggered alloys on it and it ruined the ride for me so fitted 19" Msport staggered and to me it was back to being a comfortable ride.

Now this could have been because I went from 17 to 18 and then to 19.

The X3 SD is quite a rare beast, according to 'howmanyleft' there are only:

23 3.0sd SE and 206 MSport left (taxed and sorned)

The one I'm looking at has 18" M Sport alloys but this staggered term is something I have seen mentioned about the tyres, what does it mean ?

There arnt many around judging by your figures, where are they all going or were there not many produced ?

Staggered wheels are like the ones on mine. My 19" wheels are 8.5j front and 9.0j rear.

There weren't many sold from what I was told as they were too expensive when new.
I believe they started at £38k and with a few options leather,satnav,19" wheels they cost around £45k which was X5 money.

I believe the problem with the staggered 18" wheels is the width difference.

Standard 17" are 8j all-round
18" sport alloys are 8j all-round
18" staggered are 8j front and 9j rear
19" staggered are 8.5j front and 9j rear

Here is an online brochure with the different alloys and other add-ons that were available:

The 18" wheels on this SD are the staggered

If you don't like the Msport suspension you can always look for one that had it deleted from new. It was a no cost option.
The car advertised above was one of them according to the VIN number.

No.  It's a trim pack.

Trim pack, as in GL, GLS, SRi, Ghia, SE, MSport etc.  They are just trim versions on the same car.

You order an engine variant and then what trim level you want to go with it.  That then determines what is a standard fit in terms of options.

Hmm, a comment on the thread has been deleted/amended which asked whether all 40d vehicles were MSports.
