Vibrating steering wheel

Post by Tiptop2000 » Sat Jan 30, 2016 9:07 pm

We picked up my wife's X5 64-plate last week and I noticed a vibrating steering wheel every now and then as we drove it home. Its been on the drive this week and again we took it out today and the steering wheel vibrates madly  again for a second or two and then stops.

I can't work out what it was. Only happened two or three times but thats enough. I wondered if its the electronic servo or bearing? Any ideas or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Tyre balance, buckled wheel, warped disc, worn suspension bush, loose or incorrectly fitted wheel are probably all worthy of a look.

Oh, and :hi:  :)

It sounds to me like you have the warning for wandering out of the lane you're traveling in .you should have a couple of yellow lines on the dash, between the speedo and rev counter, when it is switched on. To switch it off, there is a round button below the hazard flasher switch. It only works above 40mph, and the handbook tells you all about it.

Had the same issue with mine on a 300 + mile drive home and as above post, it was the warning notification regarding changing lanes without indicating on motorway. Hit the button!

Does the F15 system not gently steer you back into lane?

That is to say, the system does "not" steer you back into lane. Imagine the carnage if it did.

BTW, which part of Yorkshire are you from ?  :camera:

My new Skoda (fitted with the VAG) system does just that, albeit very gently.  You can easily override it - or use the indicator which disables it until you are in a different lane.  If you hold the wheel gently it will follow the road with no problem.

It does 'remind' you to take over steering though  :D
