My New Car.

Post by Don Coffey » Fri Jan 29, 2016 2:10 pm

Well new to me,

I'll be picking up a 1971 MGB GT on Monday.  My father had one from 77 until he let it rot away a few years ago.  I've hankered after one on and off for a few years now and finally bit the bullet.  I would post a few picks but for some reason Photobucket isn't allowing me to copy the link from the iPad at present.  Hopefully I'll get the issue sorted soon and post pics.

Sounds fun.  The Photobucket iPad app has a load of bugs in it, and it is way out of date (they know and tell you might be better switching to the iPhone version on the iPad).

I can't even get into the MG.  Too tall.

So able to get to my photos today. She is road ready, I'm not one to do restoration but happy to keep on top of jobs as they come along.

Lots of work done on her including repainted within the last year, refurbished gearbox, it's a four speed with overdrive on third and fourth. The wheels need refurbished but I'm thinking of going wire. Lots of other improvements by the current owner who also owns a lotus elan and Austin Healy.

It is midnight blue. I'm also a fan BRG but this car looked good with lots of work done and paperwork to back it up plus the bonus of a private plate ( well for me and the misses) DAE, Don and Elizabeth. It was the one for us.
Now I just have to remember to use the choke on start.

At least you don't need to be a computer engineer to fix it, or a millionaire to buy the parts either. :)

A couple of screwdrivers, an adjustable spanner.....and a hammer fixes pretty much everything.  And it's all Imperial.  None of your metric, Torx or Allen bolts in sight either  :D

too true. I'm building a new garage this year with strict instructions to the lad (a truck mechanic) to go nowhere near it with regards to fixing cars. He's hell for making a huge mess and leaving everything at his arse. So I will have the luxury of the garage and all the new imperial tools to myself

Fantastic MG that!  my Dad had a few of these MGBGT's and a couple of Midgets in the 70's.  Here's the first one he had; I think this pic would have been 1967.
