Would they fit as they are so much bigger though?
I put some 9 smd units in my M's number plate lights and they are not small.
[/quote]
The 9smd ones will be too big tbh and the majority of them are pointing sideways as opposed to down.

Dragging a old thread up, but I went to change my mirror puddle lights to led but it appears I can not get the plastic unit apart to change the bulb any ideas? Mine is a facelift 2005.

Re: E53 Side mirror puddle lights
Hi Robsey,
Its a case of getting your finger nails between the front cover case & the plastic rim... or a soft plastic trim tool, & ease it off, lots of gentle wiggling... and it will pop off a clip at a time.
As a matter of interest, I fitted a T10 Orange LED in this light fitting & it makes a nice warm glow on the ground, and shows up Ice well too.
I also played with a mini LED Projector unit that projects the BMW logo on the floor too.. these normally do the puddle lights from under the door pockets.

Sorry i should of been more clear i managed to get the mirror cover off but the light is one big solid white unit with a plug connector on the end, i could not separate this to remove the bulb?

Ahhj that...
I remember being a little bamboozled initially...
It either twists & unclips, or there is a release clip...
I will pull mine apart soon and remember what I did & let you know.

If you get chance mate that would be much appreciated. To me its seems like it is a sealed unit.

Re: E53 Side mirror puddle lights
Definately comes apart.
didnt get a chance today, been rewiring my HID 100Watt lamp set...
awsome lighting power from all 6 bulbs & took advantage of a day of sunshine down here in Salisbury.
With rip the front cover off my mirrors tomorrow & remember what I did to dismantle them...

There is a link in post#11 that tells you the correct way to do it - if you don't follow this you will break some clips
