I have taken my runflats off my X5 and put a second hand set of alloys with non runflat winter tyres on. I do not have a spare wheel so thought I would need some sort of tyre sealant in case I get a puncture. Has anyone got any recommendations for a sealant?
There are quite a few comments about them damaging the inside if the tyre so it can't be repaired, but these comments were from a few years ago and I wondered if technology for the sealant had improved so the inside of the tyre would not be damaged.
I don't really want to buy a spare wheel to carry in the boot but I also don't want to get stranded with a puncture with no means of getting home.
Any thoughts?

I don't think the situation has changed with the sealants. The tyre is still a write off. I added a spare to my recent buy but I know what you mean about not really wanting to carry one. That being said, I very rarely use the underfloor area the spare sits in.
Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.

Ive ditched my Runflats on my E 93 after a cracked alloy encounter with a pothole whilst on the way to Dover to catch a ferry. The ride is much better as is the handling.
I carry a couple of tins of tyre weld, not sure if they will save the day if I get a puncture, depends on the severity of the hole I suppose.
I would buy a spare, as I ditched the Runflats on my E60 years ago, and had a doughnut spare and Jack kit similar to the ones off EBay. Unfortunately on the 3er there is no space for a spare under the boot floor, as mine has to have extra strengthening spars in the Chassis to make it more rigid.

The sealants don't damage the tyre. Its just companies/fitters who refuse to wash out due to H&S and chemicals going down drain. I've used for 4 years now on my e70 after getting nail in it after 2 months. Since then never another puncture.
I bought a Renault scenic 18 months ago and got a puncture, tried Renault stuff which barely worked, thankfully it was a slow puncture. Took it to Kwick fit, oh sorry sir cant patch, elf an safety an all that BS. Went round corner to small semi independent, they hosed out sealant once tyre was off rim (takes less than 2min). Boom bash bosh plug/patch put on. I then went straight home filled all the tyres with sealant and never another problem.
Its worthwhile buying 5 litres worth, I've had 8 X5 tyres (summer/winter) and the renalt and still got about 2 ltr left. Think it was about £50 ish. Well worth it and no hesitation in recommending. Its the green stuff.
One thing to note is after fitting take car out for a fast run (I like getting to 80-90mph) that way sealant quickly coats inner tyre and no feeling that wheels need balanced. Go for it

This snot was invented for your grand-mother to use...
Suggest you get on to Flea-Bay & get a Tyre-Plug kit.
It enables you to fit rubber grommets hat look like ear-plugs into the tyre as a semi-permanent fix.
Not sure if they are claimed to be a Perm fix, but it is an almost identical repair to what a tyre bay will do.
I have found these to be VERY effective & simple to use, and have raced with these plugs in tyres that have survived a race and ... survived with no obvious hint of failure or weakness in the tyre.
