Would you? LPG an X5 e53 4.8i

OK fuel prices are dropping but wondered what thoughts are on LPG X5.
Would you buy one, would you get stock and get LPG fitted
Have you had one
Does it impair performance, servicing issues
.......

I bought  my X5 2002 4.4  9years ago and had lpg fitted in the 1st month of ownership (bought from Cotswold Gloucester). They have never quibled about any guarantee work. They did not do the conversion.
Get a quote from a reputable garage for the conversion and ask if they have done a V8 and ask for references.
Also make sure you have flexible hoses fitted from the tank to the engine , steel pipes are u/s.
The usual place for the donut tank is in the spare wheel place, I've got a 96 litre tank, you will usually only get about 65 litres in, depends on pressure that fill pump will deliver, I get equiv of about 35 mpg, loss of performance is negligible with the V8, As your are burning a vapour with lpg it is a lot kinder on your engine, the oil change mileage could be doubled , although I dont.
do a Google search and plenty of research.
LPG is about 56 p per litre at the moment.

I am well pleased with mine.

Hi

Given the cost of the initial cost of an lpg conversion you may want to see if you can find an X5 with it already fitted as saves the in outlay and not much difference in car prices. Also the time to recoup the cost of the conversion would be longer now because unleaded has dropped in price.

The other thing to remember and check on is where your local lpg stations are around you as my closest lpg station is now 12 miles away so that's one gallon gone before I travel anywhere.

Certainly its worth looking at and also doing research on the different types as other members on here have them so a quick search on the forum posts may help with this, but I think car sevicing is more as you also need to have the lpg system checked regularly

Finally if fuel consumption is an issue is it worth considering a diesel over a V8 ? For me it wasn't as I fortunate my X5 is a weekend car and does a few thousand a year

Hope that helps a bit
