smell through vents

Does any one have any ideas what the smell id that comes through centre vents now and again .musty odour ive changed the pollen filters etc any help please

leave aircon on all the time, it will help and very little effect on mpg

use an ac bomb, you put car fans on recirc, set it off and leave it do its thing.

ive tried that and smell still comes back after a bit

I had an Escort XR3i years ago that usen to smell really bad when the heater was used, it turned out to be a leaking heater matrix.
Hopefully not that as it's probably a dash out job.
