Any old school mechanics on here- e30 problem
Any old school mechanics on here- e30 problem
So sold my car and ended up spending a little money on a e30 325i, ive got it as abit of a project in view to restore it back to original as its been chavved but i feel i payed a cheap price in todays market where a 325i manual e30 cab is getting quiet hard to find.
Anyway one of the problems is
a) previous owners haveunplugged the idle control valve? if i plug it back in the car is pretty much un drivable and kangaroos from around 1200rpm
b) under normal driving (ICV unplugged as it was) if you accelerate hard at around 3500/4000 rpm power just cuts off for a split second and the car jerks, its then sometimes repeated at 6000rpm but not always, if you gradually accelerate up to 7000rpm it doesnt seem to do this
any help would be great
ps ive done a new fuel filter, next thinkin of cleaning the afm and icv and TPS (throttle position sensor), im sort of wondering if the timing is out as the sticker under the bonnet would alledge it was done only 400 miles ago

Re: Any old school mechanics on here- e30 problem
There are lots of possibilities that could contribute to this .
How does it idle with the valve connected ?
With the engine and ignition off if you operate the throttle from under the bonnet just off its still slowly at idle do you heat the throttle switch clicking ( the micro switch operating ) ?
Have you checked all the intake hoses and breathers for air leaks?
Cheers
Steve.
Let me know how you get on ... Hope I can help did my apprenticeship on those.

I will post result later or the weekend you could be just the man for questions if your ok with that, thanks
Its round getting mot'd as we speak and i know it will fail because of what ive found so far, but im trying to guage just how bad it is, lucky it was cheap! i bought it as an unfinshed project, its had new suspension sprngs and shocks, discs and pads, bushes etc, so far i think it needs new brake lines and fuel lines, a paint job or maybe paint correction ( been stored under a car cover and all the laquer ad gone milky white) ma polish up, a few interior bits, the grand plan is a full respray back to original dolphin grey colour and maybe loose the tech 2 kit for a tech 1 kit, only good point is its a genuine bmw tech 2 kit so worth good money second hand, oh and the stainless exhaust a horrid dtm style thing and is far too loud
