The engine alarm -reduced power came up on my X5 E70 with the message full engine power no longer available. Added a bottle of Lucas diesel deep clean, particulate filter cleaner then ran the car in manual gear minimum 2700 rpm for 15 minutes.
Alarm cleared and car working as per normal.
The car is used for mostly short journeys so in future will take it for a long run at least once a week. Also Lucas recommend adding a bottle of deep clean at least every oil change.
Hopefully this will work as can imagine BMW service will be £££££££ to fix!

BMW can 'force' a regen in a few minutes.  The cost comes if the DPF actually fails as they are VERY expensive.

Regular long runs are essential if you only do short journeys.

BMW also do a diesel additive at £10 a bottle.  One or two in a tank of fuel every few thousand miles, more frequently for short journeys.
