Alarm problems??

Post by Keetybwoy » Thu Dec 31, 2015 5:25 pm

Hi everyone,

I have a 2005 X5 3.0d and have been having problems with the alarm going off for no reason.

I changed the original battery 2 yrs ago for a Duracell one so shouldn't be that.

It doesn't happen all the time but most. No bugs or anything like that to set it off and starts up with no lag from a low battery.

After the alarm goes off and I unlock, the LED on the mirror flashes a number of times which must indicate something.

If I lock the car with the key, it is less frequent in going off.

Any ideas?

Cheers and Happy New Year!

A common problem is the sensor under the bonnet on the drivers side at the back of the engine bay. You could try disconnecting it and see if the problem goes away :)

A common source of this is the under bonnet alarm switch.  Left side, vertically mounted black push switch.  Try disconnecting it and see if that sorts the issue then change the switch later if is is indeed the cause.

A fair number of members have had this happen as the switch corrodes or gets wet and keeps going open circuit so triggering the alarm.

EDIT- beaten to the answer.... :)
