New Member saying Hi

Post by long neck » Tue Dec 22, 2015 11:57 pm

Hi all
I am considering a X4 as the next family car so hoping to tax you all for as much info as possible before signing on the dotted line :)

A bit about my previous cars

Here's my first BMW, 335d Msport only thing to say about this one was that I still have fond memories, great performance and MPG
Saphire black and high spec and missed

Traded in for a 318i Business edition
At the time we were just going into our new home so my sensible head kicked in :( It didn't last long, absolutely no soul whatsoever :'(
Image

So quickly on and bought my first brand new car 320d Msport in mineral white, should have test drove one before getting the 318i as the economy was superb and for a 2.0L the power was very good, all in all a very good car and I could have saved a few quid :o

Then it was goal achieved and I will be very sad to see the car go but it makes sense.......unfortunately :'(
From the off set the aim was to get a M3 and when the time came for BMW to announce the end of the V8 the clock was ticking fast. I never thought I would get a new one but with the last 500 to be made (LE500) the %0 finance deal was offered and I politely accepted :P LE500, Imola red with high spec. Reason for trade in,
a) March will see me owning her for three years and end of warranty
b) Wife drives it most of the time as I have a works van and only really take her out at weekends for a drive weather dependant
c) Can't justify the money any more for the above reasons and the fact as the wife drives it the most and has now said she is bored of it :noexpression: ::)

As you can see we have only owned e9* series and the wife wants a change. I can't stand the design of the F8* interior especially the info screen, looks like a halfords after thought to me :(
The X4 fits the bill and in my opinion is the best looking tractor on the road :P no seriously I love the looks inside and out. Also my father who doesn't drive has just had his hip replaced, he doesn't drive himself and although he has never depended on us to get about I would feel more comfortable if he would now and the X4 should be so much easier for him to get in/out of.
Couple of questions if you wouldn't mind answering I'd appreciate it
Power is not top of the list and the 2.0L does appeal but is it enough horses given the size of the X4.
Rear passenger headroom, we are all 6ft plus will we need to stick our heads out of the windows :P
What are the plus and minus's of X4 ownership. I have looked at reviews but you guys/girls are the real ones in the know 8)
No test drive to date but that will be happening in the new year

No doubt more Q&A will pop up as the time nears

Bye for now

Welcome LN,

There are a few X4 owners on here who hopefully can answer your questions. Let us know how you get on with the test drive.  It may well be worth taking you dad or someone as tall as him to sit in the back during the test drive as sitting in the back for a minute in the showroom wont always give a true impression.

Thanks for the replies, I read through the X4 threads and came across the wind noise posts. That could be a  deciding factor, trivial to some but I am fussy when it comes to cars and the tiniest things set me off >:D
for instance the 335d had to have the windscreen replaced, Mrs was driving behind a roadsweeper that was on a trailer. The thing was %50 glass and one of the panes shattered hitting the front end of our car "like a machine gun" her description >:( So front end respray and new windscreen at BMW. Start of a nightmare....the fit of the screen was not right and the noise drove me mad. but that was the least of my worries they just couldn't get the paint job up to scratch, runs drips streaks >:D. four visits it took for them to get the paint satisfactory but they couldn't get rid of the wind noise. Anyway that's behind us now and enough ranting lol

I had the 5yr service pack thrown in as part of the deal so that softens the costs but tyres are a bit hefty. Fuel is not that bad considering, lowest I had after a very spirited run was 7mpg but on the motorway you are looking at 24mpg cruising at 70mph
