Cold weather pack & multifunction info display

Post by m13lky » Tue Dec 01, 2015 7:39 pm

Just been told my new car should go into build next week, I am still swaying on adding the cold weather pack & the multifunction info display, anyone have these options & if so what do you think?

Cheers

Traded in my X5 (e70) couple of months ago now for the  X6 (f16) which has the cold weather pack and multi functional instrument panel:
1.  Cold weather pack.  Keeps the daughter warm for the early morning school run with the  rear heated seats  but would not be without the heated steering wheel ever again!  The car has just over 6k of  extras  but the heated steering wheel has to be the best option picked to date, or I'm just getting older??
2.  Multi functional instrument panel.  Changes colours depending what driving mode your in (eco-comfort-sport) displays maximum  speed limit for the different roads your driving on.  Having  driven the car for a few months now, its nice to have rather than a must have!

I've also found the HUD very useful which allows you to concentrate on your driving as all the information you need like speed limit, navigation, incoming telephone call is all displayed onto windscreen  and you are not distracted, especially when you'r in city  rush hour traffic! It is an option I would recommend if you have the choice.
Hope this helps?

OK, exchanging the X5 (E70) to the X6 (F16)  the first thing I noticed just how light the steering is. Initially thought BMW had lost it's way with the lack of feel but like most things in life, once you get use to it you will  find it so useful especially when in town or city  as it makes it a breeze to drive and  this becomes apparent as  the X6 is a big vehicle. The steering does tighten up at higher  speeds and when in sport mode.

I found with the X5 no problem regarding parking with just the sensors to assist me but  You NEED the camera's with this vehicle (Reversing Assist camera and Surround-view) they  ensure that when you have to get into a tight parking space or you need to manoeuvre  around an object, the camera's take the strain out of it and sweaty forehead!!

I drive the vehicle in comfort mode 90% of the time although occasionally it has the habit of attracting  idiots  who just want to race so I put it into sport mode, extract 30 years off my real age and show them my big rear!!
I've done a few long trips to other end of country and love  the comfort seats also a good option as they offer plenty of adjustments and you  step out after a 5+ hour drive and know you've made the right choice although I also found the  sport seats on the X5 comfortable and supportive.  Plenty of space in the rear seats for passengers and sloping roof does not  hinder those measuring 1.85M.  loads of boot space and adjustment of rear seats if you need more.

The only issue I've had with it was the Fuel filling cap area was allowing water into the rear bumper which resulted in  the electric transponder thingy  in 2" of standing water which caused the automatic tailgate to fail. BMW fixed it asap and they  found the drain hole hose had not been connected just under the filling cap when vehicle was put together (Friday afternoon rush job)allowing water to gather and retain in the  bumper.

Mine is the 3.0D M sport and and yours will have lots of extra poke being the 4.0D M sport.  Enjoy as I'm sure you will!

Thanks for the info, I know what you mean about the steering, our F15 X5 does feel a lot lighter than the E70 did but as you say if you use sport mode it is a lot better, the X6 we test drove had the Rev camera & so does our one but not the surrounds, the wife felt fine parking it with that camera & the beepers but we both know what you mean about the rear view. I change mine to often so haven't went for that many extras as you never get the money back, even the sales guy on this one agreed with me which seems strange as it is a factory build but they do come well specked anyway.

Thanks for the feedback

Must haves for me are Cold Weather Pack, HUD, Adaptive LED Headlights, Rear Camera.
Well specced from standard but these make it so much better and safer.

More and more cars seem to have electric only power steering now, and at low speed it is very light.  As you say it is much better if the 'assist' level reduces as speed is gained.  These big wheels need all the 'assist' they can get though

On the X5 F15 I find that you get a slightly disconcerting steering wheel twitch when the stop start kicks in at certain steering angles.  I tend to try and stop with wheels at straight ahead these days.
