Hi Newbie here.

Post by Hanxslf » Mon Nov 30, 2015 9:21 pm

Just joined the site as I'm thinking of getting myself an X6
So I'm hoping to find plenty of info on buying a used X6, so I'm armed with it when I go and view a potential purchase.
Im looking to hopefully to get an 08 -09 plate
Any pointers greatly appreciated.

Hi and welcome,

I had an X6 for a while and loved it. Take your time and look around as well as take the test drive with your head engaged leaving your heart behind.  Think about the colour (interior and exterior) and options that you really want. If you can stretch to the 3.0sd or 3.5d then go for it. The X is a big lump and the extra power of the twin turbo is adictive.

Good hunting

......and ignore the rest!  Red is the fastest colour (and best looking). 8)

If you can stretch a bit then aim for a 2010 40d.  Better car all round with the 8-sp auto.  I've had mine 5 years now and love it.

Really looking for something that hasn't had a lot aftermarket stuff bolted on if you know what I mean.

X5Sport,  That's one nice looking car.
I do like that colour
I think I will try to find a 35d, It must be the twin turbo and extra power drawing me to that model.

I have come across this that's not to far away from me.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/301807687936? ... EBIDX%3AIT

It's a private sale, I have been in contact with the owner, And he may be interested in my car as a P/X
The car is vinyl wrapped,

Sounds like an amazing car!  So if you do go to have a look go with an open mind. I'm not sure how the wrap works over time. Make sure it looks as go as a painted car as I'm sure it's a huge job to remove the wrap.  What colour is underneath?  How can you be sure it was wrapped for cosmetic reasons only and not to cover something up?

I'm not sure about the fifth seat conversion as it seems to only have a lap strap. Will that pass an MOT?

Wow!  It's got sound from the engine!  Must have one of those kits on mine too.  No Diesel engine will ever sound like a Merlin 24-cyl engine!!

Nitro on a diesel?  Eh?  I suppose it works, but why would you want it on a Diesel engine?  What will it have done to the car?  There are better ones out there.

The OEM was lap strap only as the standard seat back doesn't contain the key strengthening for a 3-point system.  It was a pointless conversion as it pretty much just put a hard pad where the storage cubbys are on the 4-seater.  Very uncomfortable!

The original colour is black, The owner assures me that it is hpi clear.
As for the seat conversion, if he still has the original centre console its only a 5-10 min job to change back come mot time, they do only have a lap belt for the middle seat
BUT I think I'm going to give this one a miss.
I have been to view some at dealers all different colours Red, Silver, Black, White.. the only ones that really do it for me are the Black ones. These look awesome when highly polished, Also it will have to have the black alloys,
So now I have settled on colour it will be down to spec, must haves, the electric tail gate, aluminium side running boards good spec audio pref DAB radio. Not to keen on the wooden trim panels, I much prefer brushed aluminium, but one I have see was carbon that was nice. As for the leather it would have to be black. The cream would be second choice.  I may have to compromise the 35d for a 30d if the right spec comes up, My current motor is a Qashqai 1.5 dci. so even the 30d will be more than a step up in performance, + I could always get a 30d re-mapped/chipped. more for the small increase in mpg

Good hunting,

The powered tailgate was standard on my car, but not sure if standard on all models.  Keep us informed as you search for 'the one'

I viewed 2 side by side on monday in Bradford. One had powered tailgate the other didn't. both cars were same age (2008)and same price, one Black one Silver, but the spec varied on each car. Obviously BMW's are often specced up by the individual buyer when new with the only limiting factor PRICE.
The one thing I do know is I can afford to take my time to find the right car, it might be next week, next month or even 6 month who knows...
