2008 ish purchase question
2008 ish purchase question
I'm looking to change our e53 and have a rough budget of late teens. I'm off to look at a 2008/9 e70 tomorrow that looks fair value and miles etc. It's a 3.0D m sport. My question is it worth spending a little more for a 35d twin turbo?

Performance wise, yes. Be aware that they are a bit thirsty compared to the single turbo. It's not that they are bad, but just that they aren't as good as BMW would have you believe.
They have bags of torque on tap and IMHO that makes them easy to drive. Not that the single turbo isn't similar.
The 35d will give many a hot hatch a very nasty surprise as you vanish over yonder horizon before they get their bottom jaw off the floor......and there was extra kit thrown in too if I remember correctly.

Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.

Yes and ........yes. Stick it in sport and it takes off like a rather large scalded cat.

Thanks chaps.
Economy looks better on paper so an interesting comment that its worse. that said I expect both will be better than our e53.

Re: 2008 ish purchase question
We bought a 2008 30d sport pack.
30d goes fine standard also, but even better with a bluefin tune installed (ps better than a stock 35d too)
We did not want to limit our choices to looking at twin turbos only. Was looking at overall condition of the vehicle of choice. Although if choice permitted, you know what you'd choose

Re: 2008 ish purchase question
I would go for the 35d. As a matter of fact, I did. I was looking around for about 4 months for a diesel, and when upon my searches, I test drove a 35d (3.0sd as it was called) I fell in love with it. I bought one 3 months ago. I had it remapped by Jason, and it is outrageously fast (considering it is a 2.5 ton beast). It can be more thirsty than the single turbo diesel, but driven sensibly (why would you), it can return great economy.

As above 3.0sd/35d is what i personally looked at ,
Bought a 35d in the end the pick up and economy is a marked diffrence especially coming from a 08 q7 ,
