All of the VAG group suffer issues up until recently.  Which is why the latest generation VWs now have the DPF directly off the engine rather than buried somewhere too cool underneath.  On my new Skoda (uses the new EA288 series engine) it is within 6" of the exhaust manifold to make sure it gets hot enough.

On this occasion the DPF hasnt been the issue as there was no engine management light etc just the idrive. Although it has made me more aware of the DPF and the possible issues that it can cause.
