So I'm looking for around 14V?

So I found the receipt for the current battery which was purchased in 2010, and as I'm still having random issues with it so I'm just going to go for a new battery.

Anyone have some good recommendations I've searched through posts but can't make sense of it.

my s5 bosch is 4 years old now and showing around 11.8 volts standing and 13.8 engine running.
the car starts ok but ive noticed odd things happening with some electrics. as i still have the 5 year receipt i wonder weather euro car parts would agree its dying and replace it?  O:-)
or if its worth accelerating its demise somehow!  >:D

11.8 is too low if the car is asleep, but just about OK if awake.  Should be at least 12.2 or better.  Certainly sounds as if it is approaching its end.  13.8 is fine for non-AGM charging (they need 14.2-14.4).

What is AGM i've seen some batteries listed as this?

Is there anything specifically i need to be looking for on a replacement battery?

I don't think ive ever had to replace a battery on a car

Absorbed Glass Mat.  The (fibreglass) plates in the latest battery type have a special paste on them rather than large amounts of Suphuric Acid sloshing about surrounding lead plates.  The work the same way and are safer.  You need a higher charging voltage and the batteries are less tolerant of going flat but if looked after should be more reliable.

They give better performance under certain conditions and are becoming the de facto standard, particularly amongst the Start/Stop engine system manufacturers.

I finally got the voltage info from the cluster

So just on ignition it was 12.1 fluctuating up and down give or take .1 or .2 then running it was going up and down from 13.2-13.5

and thank for the explanation, i guess I'm needing a new battery before it dies on me somewhere inconvenient.

Use a voltmeter, not the internal system.  Measurements need to be made with the car asleep and four hours after last use.
