E53 TV Not Working?
E53 TV Not Working?
I've recently seen an E53 I'm keen on buying. However, when I select the TV function on the head unit I just get a blue screen. The current owner (seems a reasonable bloke) says he has never used it so doesn't know what he's doing with the car - it was his wife's. I've done some searching and found a topic on here (but when I went to reply I got an alert saying "consider starting a new topic") and there seems to be no common solution.
Could anyone give me some ideas as to what this could be? I tried a rescan today but didn't it didn't resolve anything. I could try in another area, but I'd have to do it on the test drive.
I don't mind buying a new module part, or receiver, but I don't want to have to spend hundreds to get it working again.
Thanks, Jack.

Re: E53 TV Not Working?
It's probably an analogue tuner ??
You can change modules, or go the 3rd party tuner route!

If things were meant to be easy, then I will soon complicate them....
Please note...
Anything I say is only from my personal experience and knowledge..
I don't assume to know everything, and know there is a lot I don't know..
But then I could be talking bollox.. O:-)

your not missing much, even with tv in motion enabled the signal is poor when driving and watching tv on such a small screen is bad, if the cars good in all other ways i would just get it, perhaps knock a little money off because it doesnt work then just leave it not working.
As above what age is the car as its probably an analogue receiver

Sorry, I forgot to mention it’s a 2005 (05) model. So I’m assuming that is has the digital TV receiver?

I’m not too fussed about TV in motion. But I like everything to work on a car.

Re: E53 TV Not Working?
Got the same issue with 2005 4.8is I bought on Friday - previous owner wasn't bothered with tv and confirmed its an analog tuner issue.
Re: E53 TV Not Working?
Hi,
I was previously advised, October 2014 build onwards included DVB tuner (Freeview).

I went to see the car again this afternoon and we managed to get the TV working. I rescanned all and BBC news came up. I didn’t check any other channels, but I think it was just poor reception which was causing the issue. Thanks all for the advice.

I thought this was the case. The car was an 05 plate, so September 2014 or later. Since it’s now working it must’ve been built after October 2014.

Re: E53 TV Not Working?
You mean October 2004? First installs began during Oct 2004 - week 40 onwards. The build month/year is on a label in the engine bay. Don't go by the registration plate given it takes up to 6 weeks from build to delivery if a customer order. It could have been stored for a while.

Yes, of course, 2004, NOT 2014! ::)

Re: E53 TV Not Working?
Only by buying a hybrid receiver, or fitting an aftermarket system. Check you build label to see when the car was actually built.
If the build is post October 2004 then you need to get the unit repaired.

I wouldn't bother going to the expense, if it didn't work, two minute wonder.
