Mobile Office
Mobile Office
Hello All,
I travel a lot for my work. The back seats of my X5 make a perfect office for me to sit with my laptop and mobile dongle. Often I go to somewhere scenic at days end to do accounts and expenses.
Thing is, the laptop goes flat.
Can I power my laptop (three pin mains plug) in any way from the X5 while I'm in it?

Re: Mobile Office
You can get invertors that plug into the 12v socket in the car and have a 3 pin socket on them. A bit like this:-

Yup...that will do the job, but I wouldn't use it without the engine running . I think you would be surprised how quickly it can drain your battery.

Awesome, thanks boys. Good advice on battery life, will leave engine running when its on. I assume I can plug this in the socket in the boot too, if I wanted to sit there and work?

Re: Mobile Office
If you have a DPF and/or CAT then sitting with the engine running will kill them very quickly. They'll clog with soot.
And if you turn the car off then the 12v sockets all go off at the same moment! Done to save the battery from dying due to plugged in accessories... >:(
Solar panel on the roof anyone? Seriously a caravan solar panel unit might help if you really want to run the car as an office.

Well he did say he'd been turned by that spell in Le Slammer. So it's possible!
