Got a pre-September 2011 BUILD E70 or E71? Read this!!

If true, I would imagine BMW are going to be facing some embarrassing press coverage again. I find it hard to believe that's all they did though. The may has well given us all a Beware of the Dog sticker...

That was part of the mod, but there were additional software changes too and they are keeping quiet about that too. Those changes were made to the Comfort Access code which is still used even if the car does not actually have the system in use as an option.

CA as in passive antenna key presence?
Shouldn't have anything to do with it, the flaw with the vehicles is the ability to poke the CAS and fool it into starting the key pairing procedure, which then completes the procedure when inserted into the ELV.
Same as getting a brand new key from BMW really.
They're just trying to get out of it by saying "These people are getting into the cars by method A, and we've rectified it", when realistically people are getting in by method B which is much more common.
PS - The info in the link has been verified by multiple sources within BMW

Just booked mine in with Eastern in Edinburgh. Was told "we can do it if you want it and we will charge BMW GB back for the work" "So would you like to book it in sir" "Your bloody right son, I don't want some scaly running off with my pride and joy!".
So relaxed as if it was not a big problem. He even said he was aware of a couple of cars being stolen in London but that was all. Crazy!

It's supposed to have been done as part of servicing. Seems a very casual attitude!! Oh, and BMW are paying anyway!!!

ConnectedDrive security hole....
It seems BMW are remotely patching cars that have the ConnectedDrive system on board. A rather nasty security hole has been found - and patched - that allows the doors to be opened without much difficulty!!
It affects pretty much every type of car made by the BMW Group (Mini & Rolls-Royce too) with the ConnectedDrive tech and for me as someone with good IT knowledge shows that the car industry has still to learn the lessons that most of those with computers learned many many years ago!! The complacency is staggeringly bad.
Details here.
