Panoramic roof not closing - E70 35d M

Post by carter4716 » Mon Sep 07, 2015 8:00 pm

No matter what I do to close the sun roof the front glass panel always dips
down like its going to slide back, and wont seal flush with the rear glass panel.

Please help its driving me madImage

Problems with the rear section are common.  Have a look in the E53 section for tips and hints.

Unfortunately the fix does occasionally mean a new roof cassette is needed. :(

Thanks for the tip, I will have a scour through now. The rear glass panel is fine, the issue is when you slide the button to close, the front glass continues to slide under like its opening again. Very strange

Cassette went on mine too.

Luckily I was in warranty.

One of the Main reasons I fell out with BMW aftercare/service.

It was the reason why I did not order it. I ordered it on my E53 and really liked it, but in the end was too scared to use it in case it would fail.

I liked it too on my E53 and I was shocked it kept working while I had it because they are so renowned for going wrong.

I liked it on my E70 and still on my f15. So far neither have gone wrong, possibly because I never actually open it
A non- moving see through roof wouldv'e done me, been more relaible by all accounts and presumably cheaper... but no such option....

It'll be allright in the end. If it isn't allright it isn't the end

Agreed.  I considered one for my new car but decided against it because of the issues with these panoramic roofs generally.  Perhaps all the German car makers are using a cassette from the same supplier?

I did see a post on YouTube, where you can quite easily remove part of a bracket on the slide part of the mechanics. Where the rear part then becomes static and therefore sort of solves the problem. Hope this helps? Mark

Its a knowm issue and its the reason I orderd my E70 WITHOUT  a pan roof. Sorry its happened to you. There was a you tube and a posting on the net about fixing it, but does require it to be removed to be fixed. New cassette is your only viable option unfortunately.

Sorry ........& good luck.
