Now it's my turn ! Door handle not working......

Hi guys,

Well known issue on E53 X5's - I have read enough on here about it !!

Now it's my turn, went to open my drivers side door yesterday and handle just pulls and doesn't open the door.

While I can still get in / out the car by lowering the windows and reaching in and opening from inside.....its a pain in the a55 !

There are DIY guides on here but to be honest my skills stop at changing a bulb - If I attempt it I know I will probably do more damage - so I guess it's off to a garage to fix.

Any idea on likely cost ? Pains me that I can't do it myself and save myself a small fortune, but that's the way it is !

Must have blown up from Essex to Suffolk

if handle is not broken yet but very stiff. Remove internal door cover,fixed with 4-5 screws,cant remember exactly.disconnect  window switch and remove airbag unit(if you struggle search youtube) take WD40 and aim all the moving parts,most importantly try to aim inside cable sleeve!! Put all back together,move handle 5-10 times, after couple hours it should work smoothly again! worked for me and for other 2 two lads! looking about 15-20 min job,easy breezy, good luck!!

I have the door handle issue too, but managed to fix it with the cable tie trick - excellent, but now it seems the mechanism on the door shut end under the handle now needs tinkering with.... damned cars lol

The handle mechanism is fine, the lifter is fine.... now I gotta fiddle with the locking block...
