Hmmm that's what Iv found on the net, my mechanic is suggesting I change the EGR and air mass sensor,

As today it was struggling to idle, as soon as it warmed up when it's revved it just switched off, and fault code comes back to egr & air flow sensor.

Unfortunately it's just a bit of a punt changing all the parts showing up on the scanner - and Iv got a feeling the problem may lie elsewhere

I think maybe the EGR valve on the E70 may be an electronic one, as the EGR valve on the E53 was vac operated and a fairly simple affair which can be removed and cleaned easily, even bypassed by simply removing the vacuum pipe and plugging off.
It just seems to be the norm now for mechanics to just replace parts that the computer throws up until the problem goes away, seems the best option when someone else is footing the bill. I'm a service engineer of 30+ years and it gets on my nerves that with modern ways we are in someways moving backwards in technical abilities to fault find, but instead using a laptop as the Gospel.

I totally agree with you mate, the good old days a real mechanic would pin point a fault without all this code reading malarky...

It does just seem too easy for them to plug a machine in and replace whatever part shows up on the machines!!

Unfortunately my mechanic is going by his code reader and has ordered a new egr value - im hoping this is going to be the end of it...!! Although the air mass sensor was also a fault showing up but not sure if it was just a ghost fault because of the egr.

We'll wait and see [emoji20]

£750 spent and still none the wiser!

Fitted a new EGR valve and car is still very sluggish - not picking up speed

Local Indy now checked with scanner and faults are showing different things, first time it was this

Then cleared, tried driving but then was so sluggish so we did another scan and this showed up.

Now the mechanic is saying we should change the pressure sensor and try to do a forced regen of the DPF... To be honest I'm not filled up with confidence at the moment, I'v already spent a fortune on the bloody thing.

Reading up on different posts it seems to be a common fault code 4D00 / 480a / 481a but not sure what is actually wrong...

Does anyone know what steps I could take?

Or recommend a BMW specialist in the West Yorkshire area??

A new egr fitted but still showing egr fault in a diagnostic check, along with Airflow & dpf...

Had soot levels checked and it said 64% available - would that bring up the dpf error on the scanner??

I'm thinking the fault may lie elsewhere but Iv had glow plugs / relay, full service, new egr, but still faulty!!!!
