What tyres to put on it?

Post by VolvoT5 » Tue Aug 18, 2015 6:47 pm

Can anyone recommend what tyres go well on the E53?

Only had mine a couple of months and it has a mixture of crap tyres.

I assume there is not much change out of £180 each per wheel on these sizes?  255/50/19 and rear 285/45/19

I type they're sizes into Google, several internet based tyre providers out there. All tyres have an EU rating.
This is an independant test on each tyre, don't get bogged down with makes you think are " premium "
I would go with tyres that have a rim protector strip, as that may save you scrubbing the rims.
I've had so called budget tyres that have faired better than the well known brands,
2011 Kia Sorento KX3  2.2D 60 Plate Auto in black ( mine )
BMW E83 X3.  3.0d M Sport, 2008 in black ( now gone )
BMW E93 330i Convertible  Msport  2007.  ( Now sold )
VW Golf 2.0 TDI 140 GT 2010 ( now sold )
Now Sold 55 plate, X5, 3.0 D Sport. Silv

Yeah I'm not a tyre snob, I've used budgets for £50 a corner on my old car no problems.

However this one has 4 random cheapos on it and I was a bit surprised to under steer slide on a wet round about the other day at lowish speed.  Plus despite having plenty of tread the fronts just look cracked and old, time for a replacement soon I think.

Tyre noise is an issue for me as well.  I don't mind a budget tyre but I've had a couple in the past that made the car deafening at motorway speeds.  I can't be doing with that.
