...Horrible experience. Shortly after pulling off drive onto main road heard warning noise as car completely cut out, it started up immediately but within seconds happened again, luckily I did manage to get kerbside out of traffic flow. So now the cars completely dead, absolutely nothing when turning ignition, so I go immediately to check battery ( which is a right chew with shut tailgate and no power).
Straight away noticed the pos lead was loose, tightened it back on and the relief when interior lights etc came back on, but... now the 4x4 warning light on and car will not turn over at all. Tried disconnecting battery all together and left for 20 mins, still the same when try to start, also did a search and tried turning steering to full lock but no power steering at all, so if anyone might have an idea as to what the problem is I would greatly appreciate any advice.

Re: x5 died whilst driving ...
Can't help with the no start except suggest you check the power feeds to the starter motor & solenoid on the engine and from the jump point under the bonnet.
The 4x4 light is normal after a battery disconnect and will go out when you get it started and move the steering from lock to lock - not easy without PAS!

Thanks bud, got brother in law whose mechanic to look at it, where the pos housing round battery had come loose the other cable had disconnected inside which tbh I would never have noticed, he put it all back together, tightened everything up and started straightaway, thank God for that. That was one scary episode which could have ended alot worse had I been on fast road when car "died" on me.
