X5 E70 Voice Control

Hi All

Just got me a 2011 AUC X5 Xdrive3.0d monster.

Playing with all the bits in it, as you do, ive discovered the voice commands.  Cutting to the chase, i can only seem to get it to offer commands for phone options and nothing more.  Ive got bluetooth audio streaming working via the phone and Nav in a CIC Professional setup, so assume i have the correct setup, but how do you get the rest of the voice commands working.

Ive tried while being on the navigation option then pressing the voice button but it only asks for name or number, if i say help it says options but they are all phone related like "Call Name" "Call Number" etc....

Am i missing something here or do i need another "option" purchased for voice commands other than phone to work?

Check whether 'Voice Control' is listed in the options.  You might just need the BMW retrofit kit which could be no more than an expensive licence key - called an FSC Code - to enable it.

Options dont list it see below, so its an additional extra then, can i get the FSC code cheap and how would it be installed if it can be done without the stealer!

Do you have auto folding door mirrors?

I have a button that i can press and it folds the mirrors but it doesn't do it when i lock the car, i believe that's a coding job that needs to be done, im going to try that when i get my cable

Yes thats correct with your options you can code your keyfob to open/close the door mirrors and the tailgate. Check with your dealer if your car needs a firmware update...to increase security against theft, no charge.

Also check the sat nav map version since this can be upgraded to 2015-2 (i assume you have Europe Premium?)

I already got the FCS code from a chap online and upgraded the maps, had 2011 so got the new 2015-2 Western Europe one.  Dont really see any real difference to be honest.  Just updated roads i suppose.

The keyfob already has a little boot icon on it and when pressed opens the boot, if you hold it then it closes the boot also.  What i will look to do is code the button in the car to close the boot (if possible) as it only opens it at present.

Bluetooth update is also done.  Again it was all working fine before i did it so not sure what its changed (other than bug fixes) but i like to keep things current if possible.  Gutted i dont have the full voice package though.  Ill ask my local dealer what the deal is with that, probably a lot more money than its worth!  :-[

Mine had the bmw security firmware update today...i cant see any difference but hopefully will be to potential thieves.

I enquired about SA620 retrofit and was told by my dealer (south west coast) that they had spoken to bmw uk about this potential job. The feeback was that it would not be feasible because some wiring would be required to be connected to the sat nav so cost would be ££££ in addition to the software coding.

Unless someone else hears otherwise i will assume this is a dead end.

There are a whole load of retrofit kits listed by BMW on Realoem.  Correct one depends upon your specific options list....this is the list against my E71 and it will have an equivalent for the E70 as the electronics are pretty much the same.

Have a look and see if one fits yours, then quote that number to BMW.  Many dealers cannot work their own parts systems!!  It quotes US/CDN against some options but that appears in all the EUR versions too.

There seems quite abit of confusion here regards to Voice control on the E70/71 platform,if you have the Pro Nav and the bluetooth which allows mobile calling the required hardware is already installed (voice button on wheel and cable to Navigation unit) its just a case of activating the SA620 VoiceControl by purchasing the required fee from BMW plus adding the option to the VO and thats all is needed albeit at an expense that could could many off the idea!

It's steep for a relative simply procedure shameful nothing more than that,if BMW wants more business through their doors it can't be wrong reducing the costs of retrofits that many ill advised customers at point of order failed by unkowledgeable sales staff in the first place!

Hey Mpower, Can i code this option in myself?  Been thinking about doing so coding so if this is something i can do then its even more tempting.

I assume adding the option to the VO is the coding part but activating the SA620 would need a FCS code?
