Hi Guys

My 2005 3.0d had its 3rd oil change recently and the indy i used todl me that i need this part changing, but they didnt have it in stock so i need to take it back in. He qutoed £220parts and labour which includes breather value, air filer and fuel filter.

Does this sound about right?

I would say that sounds ok as the parts would be around the £100 mark and there is a bit of time/labour involved in getting at them.

x man wrote ..... @ pvr the build date on my x5 is march 2005 and it did not have the modified breather filter fitted to it,
so not sure when in 2005 the modified filters were fitted.
I changed mine today along with the filter and it was the updated version...my build date was August 04 so either mine has been upgraded(which i don't think so to my knowledge) or perhaps x mans was replaced by an older version..... strange!
I was expecting mine to be the older type.

@ Bazzyboy you mentioned the two part numbers in your op so i only bought one being the new housing assembly with filter(as i thought i had the old one)had i thought that i had the new one i obviously would have only ordered the other part.
As for the other part 11127799366 for £19 i take it that is the seperate plastic part with two holes in the top (in x mans picture)....sorry for the lame question but if that is the filter and not the other round part that is part of the housing then it means i have a spare upgraded filter housing.

Thanks bazzyboy...thats what i was thinking that it would benefit someone with the old type breather  As for benefits i wasn't sure whether or not it was just in my head but i took the x for a drive after and it seemed way sharper and much more responsive to the throttle. It felt clean again and when i gave it the beans there wasn't as much fog behind  The missus is of out in it today and she drives it more than me and will notice any difference so i will ask her later what she thinks. Thanks again for eveyone involved in a great thread/threads you know who you are

@Sanj.........I will charge you extra for it already being broke in for you........you feckin magpie.......btw no offence there geordies ;)

I was giving this an attempt yesterday but having difficulty removing the cover in which the air filter sits. There is around 5 bolts that hold this down, the one that is causing an issue is the one at the back hidden further down. Any chance you can assist on what I should be doing to get this off to get to the the brether and air filter. Seems like an impossible position.

Help would be appreciated

Cheers

Hi Bin...you either neet fingers like et  or you need to take of the microfilter housing as shown here.... http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do ... g=64&fg=10
Two 13mm nuts iirc and the whole assembly slides forward and out and then you can get access to the allen bolt at the rear
I'm just about to go in the garage and do exactly the same job ...again :headbang:

Thanks x555, top man, exactly what I needed to know. Will give this a second attempt tonight. Its actually turned out to be more difficult than expected.

Good luck with your one.

Cheers
