My iDrive (CIC) screen always reverts back to showing my global position on the RHS on a cold start.
So, if i set the right side of the split screen to show Journey Computer or traffic situation map (useful) go for a drive then turn off the car and lock up, in the morning it will always revert back to showing my long-format GPS coordinates!! (not particularly useful)
If I get back into the car after a short while, my chosen setting remains, so seems linked to the car going into full shutdown.

iDrive split screen annoyance
Re: iDrive split screen annoyance
Hello,
What year is your car?
Mine is a 2007 model, registered in 2008, 3.0d. Occasionally if I use a different key the car recalls information stored on the key and adjusts everything accordingly (seat and steering wheel position, radio buttons and presets). Very occasionally though the steering wheel stays in its resting position instead of coming out towards me - clearly it has a mind of its own!
Do you use the same key every time? We have his and hers keys! Have you tried storing all your settings using the memory buttons at the side of the seat? I use button 1 on the side of the seat for me and 2 for my wife. When you have everything set the way you want it, press 1 then, holding 1 in, press button M, release M and then release 1. See if that works. If not I don't know what to suggest...

Re: iDrive split screen annoyance
Hi Graeme
It's a mid-2012 E70 LCI
I'd had the thought it might be key memory dependent, but we only ever use one key (further thoughts below).
Haha! I also have an amnesiac steering wheel. No problem with memory seats, however.
Interesting idea to test the car seat memory button as a means to store CIC settings. I will try that out. Logic might suggest the seat position would have nothing to do with iDrive settings, but since when did logic come into iDrive design!
After someone tried to steal the car using the well-publicised OBD key programming technique, we've had an aftermarket alarm fitted (secondary imobiliser, better internal sensor, external warn-away, long-range 2-way remote, louder siren, disabled OBD, etc etc). This uses a secondary remote to lock/unlock the car. The point being that the BMW key is only used in the dash to start the car. Would the car normally recognise personalised, key-specific settings on unlock with the BMW key?

Re: iDrive split screen annoyance
I'm sorry but I don't know enough to answer your question. The seat memory button also stores steering wheel settings and I think the preset buttons and telephone memory as well.
From your comments it sounds like you are going to have to experiment...
Best wishes,
Graeme

Re: iDrive split screen annoyance
To answer my own question... I've been playing around and it seems to be related to navi guidance
If you use the "Arrow View" option in the split screen, only selectable when you're using the sat nav for guidance, it seems the CIC iDrive always defaults to "Position" in the split screen when it boots from cold. (as if to say "well, I can't give you the arrow view when there's no destination, so here is your GPS location instead!)
If Arrow View is deselected during guidance, and another view is used (e.g. Journey Computer or Entertainment details), then the iDrive displays the view selected even after a full shutdown/restart.
Clearly an iDrive quirk
