Right, been on real oem, not sure quite where to look. The last 7 digit vin search comes up under the 1998 - 2006 parts list however completed another search showed a build date of jan 2006. So basically states that the car sat for 15 months before being purchased and registered which I'd have thought was odd.

I have the original one via pdf at home which ill recheck. ones lying haha

This link:

http://www.bmwarchive.org/vin/bmw-vin-decoder.html

Will give you the actual build date.

It could be that as a manual, no one wanted it.  It might have been a cancelled order and just sat in a BMW GB yard.

From the info above it was built 23/1/06

As stated,  the 2007 UK registration could be due to a legitimate reason, (such as a cancelled order retained by BMW prior to 1st owner taking registered delivery).

The stamped build date appears under the bonnet on a sticker next to the washer bottle. If this differs from VIN decode I would want to ask questions with BMW UK, original supplying or maybe friendly local dealer.

The headlamps will have a small clock face with their build date ( these typically predate car unless new items fitted since car built) .

To check integrity of VIN - Last 7 of VIN should on Sticker inside right door edge , right suspension turret should have full vin on as should windscreen lower near side. Also build date info accessible via dash display hidden codes via dash display.

Perhaps the supplying dealer or bmw UK could shed some light although I doubt they will assist much other than to confirm legitimacy of the vehicles build date.

I  HPI checked the car prior to purchase and all was clear, the vin matched what was provided.
Ill check the bits you mentioned above out of curiosity now and get in touch with my local dealer who also happened to be the original supplying dealer. Hopefully they are willing to be helpful.

Lovely looking car btw. Sport exclusive edition with status grey paint, nappa and full comms pack. One of the nicest  manual cars I have seen.

I am in no way trying to discredit the car albeit there seems to be misunderstanding or discrepancy between build dates quoted on here. I am more curious than anything as to the background to this very nice car :)

well BMW replied RE the gap in between the build and registration, they literally said dealers wont register until the car is sold and to contact the selling dealer.
