Clanking noise from tailgate on X5

Post by simteq » Mon Jan 12, 2015 10:27 am

Hi
I have a 2012 X5 M Sport 30 XDrive which has a clanking noise from the rear tailgate, the noise seems to be related to times when the car flexes eg. when turning off the road into a driveway which has a slope to it. Seems ok when going over a speed bump when both rear wheels hit the bump together.
Any help would be appreciated as it is really annoying !

Hi,
Same with my 2011, really annoying. I've removed the boor roller thing and lightly oiled the connections but its still there. I too would like any advice.

I've had this issue. See http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-forums/ ... lgate.html. Needs fine tuning and not 100% yet but a lot better than it was. Hope that helps

No problem. If at first, it doesn't reduce the noise completely, just raise the bump stops up a little more.

I started a post on here about 8 months ago about this.! Mine sounded just the same and had new rubbers fitted around the boot but still no better, then the 2nd time at the dealers, they found the problem which is apparently a common problem.! When you fold down the rear seats (you don't have to do this, just trying to make it easy for you to understand ) and they come back upright and click back into position, the metal post and the metal bit in the back of the top of the seat rattle and drive you crazy.!! On mine they put some like cloth tape around the metal A post and not done this since  :)  There is on here somewhere a picture of it but try this and see if it works  ;)

Hi All

First post here.

I had this noise from my new AUC 2011 Xdrive3.0D.  Its a metal on metal knocking from the rear.

Got my daughter to sit in the boot while i drove around my small village to see where it was coming from.  She identified it to be the rear seat latches.

If you go to the boot and grab the rear seats and wobble them you can hear it.  I didnt have felt tape so just used electrical tape around the metal latches and its 95% gone now.  I get the odd one when i go over a large bump so i will order some felt tape from ebay and do a proper job.

I also did the boot stops as per the linked post but not sure that made much difference.

Same as mine. Dealer did not want to fix it whilst under warranty as they could never replicate it (yeah, right ….). I will do it this weekend as on my 7 hours drive earlier in the week, it drove me demented ...
