Replacing front wiper blades LCI X5

Post by bubbabear » Sat Jul 18, 2015 10:13 am

I ordered valeo VM447 blades since the website told me it was correct however when they arrived they do not fit because i need 'top lock' fitting not side lock fitting that attaches wipers onto the arms.

Has anyone else purchased wipers that fit if so where from and how much?

Thanks

I ran into some confusion on wiper blade fit. My conclusion was that at some point during the LCI refresh the fitting was changed (not immediately, however) and not all manufacturers/retailers are aware. It depends on your build month/year.

I have very recently fitted the VM331 set, with great results:

The link has pictures of the fitting.

The passenger side on this set is 19" versus 20" on the originals, but this makes no discernible difference IMHO.  This is the set recommended by wiperblades.co.uk for the 2012-2013 build years, but they do also stock 24"&20" kits.

AwB - thanks very helpful. I have learnt that e70 pre lci use vm447 (side lock) and lci onwards use top lock (press fit) fitting.

For lci models OEM dealer blades are £46/pr , bosch aerotwin AP24U and AP20U will fit due to multi fitments however carparts4less sell  vm331 £16.74 incl p&p.

LCI e70 (approx. October 2011 onwards)

Have hunted around and most sellers have the fitting as side pin.  The correct is a top button release / clip in.  Bosch and some other do but passenger blade is 19" & not 20" as OEM.

Found these on ebay from 'rtgroup11'
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/161849570410
Took one of my wipers of and checked against picture, fitting is exactly the same except BMW OEM one has small white printed detail on plastic fitting top.
Will check that blades are 20 & 24" when delivered but do look to be exact OEM type (though quality untested).  Will give them a go and if ok then great if not will stump up £50 for dealership replacements.
