Glad it's now sorted, but it does sound like someone ditched it asap after having trouble.  Probably had an El cheap or job done to get it in the road so it could be sold - and the seller kept very very quiet!! >:(

Don't worry.
It wasn't me...

I've still got mine!!!!!

Glad yours is sorted now. That is good news.
Finally you can get to enjoy it like you should.

I know that's a lot of money, but take it from someone who knows that price is very good value for all the work that was done.

I've been tempted to remap mine, but just too paranoid about the drivetrain...

Too many gearbox rebuilds and then stripping the front prop splines necessitating changing parts in the transfer box too.....
Not too keen on risking anything else!!!!

I know it should all be fine now, but these things can bite you in the bum very quickly and easily.

Got my 2nd oil change since back on the road coming up soon and am going to do gearbox filter and part fluid change at the same time.
That could be interesting!!!!

Now you know about the debate on gearbox oil changes......and yet you're still going to tempt fate eh? ::)

Since that fluid has only been in about 2 years I think I'll be OK...

Well the elation didn't last long. On the morning of our holiday to North Devon the wife jumped into the car to fill up with diesel and when she returned said that the car wouldn't move when she put it into drive and just sat there for a while just revving as if it were in neutral. We only had the car back for 48 hours so I put it down to the gearbox settling back in so we hitched up and set off.
The first 50 miles of motorway driving were faultless and I was enjoying the extra power and torque. That was until we hit the A roads and hills associated with North Devon. The first problem I noticed was an almighty vibration throughout the car when accelerating up hill (as the vehicle naturally starts to slow) but this would clear quickly as I pressed the loud pedal. We made it to the camp site with the odd recurrence of the vibration issue and we spent the rest of the afternoon setting up camp. The following morning we jumped into the car to head to the beach but selecting drive did nothing. We just sat there revving but going nowhere for about 30 seconds. Reverse was fine but not practical for a 20 minute journey along country roads. Eventually drive engaged itself with a slight clunk and off we went. For the rest of the day the gearbox was fine no matter how many times we stopped and restarted but an annoying pattern arose every morning. In the end I resorted to selecting 1 or 2 manually, back over to "D" and so on until we managed to engage forward momentum.
I called Jason after  a couple of days and explained what was happening and he said it sounds like it is the clutch packs at fault and will need replacing. He was also very quick to point out that he didn't look at them when he had the gearbox apart and had only replaced the torque converter. I got the feeling that he was trying to distance himself from this ongoing problem quite quickly. The upshot of the conversation was that he would need to drop the gearbox again and replace the clutch plates and said I would be looking at a similar bill to the last one.
In the end I had to cut my holiday short as the gearbox was getting gradually worse and I was concerned about our return journey.

Sorry to read you are having issues.

Mine was a TC failure that then took out two clutch 'packs' and a brake 'pack'.  I can't remember now how many there are of each, but the box was completely rebuilt with all new packs, oil pump, TC, filters, gaskets and oil.

Given what is happening sounds like a clutch/brake pack failure then it would be best to get a complete rebuild done (minus the TC as that should be OK).

Jason will have had his reasons for only going as far as he did so I can't comment on that side of events.

It all seemed to be going very well as you said after the repairs .

Quote from 7 builder -  At this stage the car was taken for a test drive and all previous problems were found to be fixed. I picked the car up today and I must say the difference is unbelievable. There is no more hesitation and the car now drives and reverses up kerbs with ease. The ECU has been reworked by Jason as well and this has transformed the previously asthmatic OAP into a fire breathing monster. Really, the acceleration in fcuking unbelievable. I can now spin the wheels of a 2.5 ton 4x4 from a standing start and mid range acceleration on motorways is epic. Jason really has done a sterling job in completely transforming my X5 and I am very happy indeed.    Unquote .

I wonder if this has anything to do with it .

                                This wont help either .

The wheel spin was a one off when I was out with Jasons' Son Dominic when I went to pick the car up and took it for a test drive.
The kerb in question was the drop kerb on my drive. If driving up that could have caused possible clutch pack failure then the transmission must be made of the finest Lurpak.
It's a real shame that the gearbox wasn't inspected closer when it was out  as I am now facing a big bill to do it all over again. This is what is really pissing me off.

Going to call Jason in the morning to get it booked back in but he did say he will be on holiday until the 10th Aug so I don't see much progress until after then.

I understand the frustration and annoyance .
I reckon the gearboxes are made of the finest lurpack which is why they should be treated carefully .
It would seem to have had problems prior to you owning it . Perhaps a complete rebuild would have been the better option whilst it was removed for the other work .

Is it a 5 speed or 6 speed auto and what year is the X5 .

Good luck .
